‘Direction is more important than speed’

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Motivational speaker, Darren Hardy, is quoted as saying, “Direction is more important than speed.”

I like that.

I think Mr. Hardy must know a thing or two about life.

Our culture is addicted to doing everything fast and thinking that is always the best way.

We want our food fast, our bank tellers fast, our grocery checkers fast.

My goodness, we even want our lawn mowers fast.

However, as one lawn mower retailer reminds us, “It’s not how fast you mow, but how well you mow fast!”

Someone who is speedy but is headed in the wrong direction is simply someone who gets to the wrong place first!

Speed is not always the name of the game.

I am encouraged by the people enrolled in the Defiance Running Club’s ‘Couch to 5k’ program.

These individuals are starting out slow and making their way steadily along in their training to eventually run a 5 km race.

It may take a while but they are on the right road and headed in the right direction towards better health and well-being.

Jesus, competing against all the various ideologies and belief systems of His day, once said a profound thing in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but through Me.”

Sometimes in life we may be tempted to run ahead of God and dive into things that are not good for us.

Following the path that Jesus set out for us in the Bible is a safer bet to be going in the right direction.

I encourage you to pick up a Bible today and check that out.
