Canada Day, eh?

Canada, eh?

Canada Day, eh?

Don’t you mean “Dominion Day”??

That’s what it used to be called.

OK, how many people really remember 1967, our centennial year?

And…the best part – EXPO ’67!

Or, as it was called “Man And His World”.

I’ve lost track of how many times I went to Expo ’67, but we would drive, ride a train or a bus, or hitch a ride just to go back! It was only 2 hours from Ottawa, and ran from April through October, don’t forget.

62 participating countries, more than 100 pavilions, representing countries, businesses, provinces.. and my favourite?

The Brewer’s (Beer) Pavillion!

The 280 “hostesses” in uniform, the 50 million people who came from everywhere to see this amazing country
on the international stage, and it was said to be the best Expo ever.

There was “Habitat”, the monorail, and, of course, La Ronde on Ile St. Helene… amazing rides!

How many times that year did we hear, hum or sing along with Bobby Gimby!?

“Ca – na – da…We love thee! Now we are twenty million… Ca – na – da”

It was a great time to be alive, and to be Canadian.

Still is, of course.
