Information Sessions for ‘Community Hubs’ being held this summer

The information sessions this summer are the first phase of a community needs assessment. The focus of this exercise is to meet with various community groups and citizens in Chatham-Kent to identify the strengths and resources available in the community to meet the needs of children, youth, families and seniors. A community needs assessment identifies key needs and issues through systematic, comprehensive data collection and analysis.

During these meetings administration will also speak with residents and community organizations regarding community hubs to determine if Chatham-Kent communities would benefit from this type of service delivery approach and which groups would like to partner together in a community hub.

Community hubs are vibrant centers of community life that generate economic and social benefits while improving the efficiency of local services. By bringing services together under one roof, hubs make it easier for people to access the services they need. While each hub is unique, we know that making good use of public space and bringing services together in a central location within communities is beneficial to everyone.

These sessions will provide an opportunity for the community to share with administration and Council on what needs and services they want for their community. They will help to identify community hubs that already exist, to recognize community partners that are coming together to share space, and allow the municipality to demonstrate how they can help enhance the success of these ventures and act as a facilitator for the process.

This project is an information gathering initiative only. Administration will compile the information received during these meetings and provide a report to Council in the fall.

With the ever-increasing costs of maintaining facilities, Don Shropshire, Chief Administrative Officer states “community hubs could be the answer to making public services more accessible and efficient for the people of our municipality”.

If you require special accommodations for this public meeting, contact ckcommunications@chatham-kent.ca or call 519.360.1998.
