Police allege that a northbound motor vehicle was attempting to make a turn off Highway 40 when a second northbound vehicle collided into the back of the stopped vehicle.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the second vehicle suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was then air lifted by Ornge air ambulance to a London hospital for further treatment.

Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) is assisting with the investigation.

OPP officials said at 9:59 p.m that Highway 40 was closed between Electric Line and Corktown Line.

Police say the section of road is anticipated to be closed for three hours (until 1 a.m.) to allow for further investigation.

The investigation is continuing.

OPP officials are asking people to not call the OPP Provincial Communication Centres for road advisory updates or road condition information.

They said to visit the Ontario Ministry of Transportation website at ontario.ca/511, Twitter @511Ontario or call 511 traveller’s information.
