WallyFest, Farmers’ Market a success in downtown Wallaceburg

A pair of events on Saturday brought a nice crowd to the downtown core in Wallaceburg.

The 2nd annual WallyFest was held by the Wallaceburg and District Chamber of Commerce, and piggy backing on the event was the second installment of the Wallaceburg Farmers’ Market.

“WallyFest was very successful,” said Karen Debergh, president of the Wallaceburg Chamber.

“We couldn’t have asked for better weather. The combination of the Farmers’ Market and WallyFest really brought out the crowds downtown.”

The outdoor event featured specials and deals from downtown merchants, local organizations selling food and beverages, the Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services providing fire safety tips and truck tours, plus a kid’s zone featuring an obstacle course, inflatables, face painting and a variety of carnival games.

“All the vendors had great sales,” Debergh said.

“We are looking forward to next year.”

Maddy Button, student employee with the Wallaceburg Farmers’ Market, said organizers estimate that 1,600 came through the Farmer’s Market on Saturday.

“We were extremely pleased with how the second market went,” Button said.

“We had more vendors, a wider variety of fresh products and an amazing turnout. We would like to thank our community, vendors, the BIA members and our sponsors, Lambton Conveyor for their ongoing support.”

The final market of the season is scheduled to take place on September 23, coinciding with the Kinsmen’s Pumpkinfest event.

The Wallaceburg Farmers’ Market has been organized by a small group of volunteers and the the Downtown Wallaceburg BIA.
