Dresden man charged with impaired on Hwy. 40

A Dresden man faces impaired driving charges after a traffic stop on Highway 40.

OPP officials say on July 22, around 11:45 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) member while conducting a focused patrol on St. Clair Road (Highway 40)near Brook Line observed an eastbound motor vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at the stop sign. The motor vehicle then continued eastbound on Brook Line.

The member conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was transported to detachment for further tests.

Upon further investigation, the male driver, a 27-year-old Dresden man was charged with:

– Drive while ability impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada,

– Drive motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, and

– Disobey stop sign, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 22, 2017 to answer to the charges.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is actively monitoring the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
