Update: Investigation continues after fatal powerboat crash

The investigation is on-going after a fatal crash during the St. Clair Riverfest races in St. Clair County, Michigan on Sunday afternoon.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department in Michigan have released some details about the tragedy.

Police officials say on Sunday July 30, at 4:42 p.m., a collision occurred at the North West turn of the St. Clair Power Boat Races.

Involved in the collision were the Cat Can Do boat and the Miss Geico boat, police say.

“The throttleman of Cat Can Do Keith Holmes died from injuries sustained in the crash,” St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department officials said in a press release.

“The driver Jamie Sartin was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries from the crash.”

Accident Investigators continue to examine the information gathered, police officials say.

With the assistance from United States Coast Guard Investigative Services, data from the two boats navigation systems was downloaded for review, police say.

Once the investigation is complete, it will be reviewed by the St. Clair County Prosecutors Office.
