Arson, weapons and mischief charges laid

A Chatham man faces arson, weapons and mischief charges after a string of alleged incidents.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials alledge that on the evening of Tuesday, September 26, 2017 a man was inside a friend’s residence in Chatham when he lit a box spring of a bed on fire.

The fire was extinguished and the man was asked to leave.

Being asked to leave the residence allegedly angered the man and he began throwing glass drinking cups around the kitchen area.

A light fixture was damaged during this violent outburst and he was asked to leave again, but refused to do so.

The damage value was estimated at $100.

Yesterday, at approximately 9 a.m. police responded to a disturbance at the same address where the man had been asked several times to leave.

Prior to police arrival, the man had a knife in his hands and was allegedly threatening anyone who attempted to remove him from the house.

At 9:30 a.m. the 27-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with arson, mischief under $5,000 and weapons dangerous.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail
hearing.
