Man arrested after lottery tickets were stolen

A Walpole Island man faces charges after allegedly stealing some scratch tickets in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say last night at 11:40 p.m. a man attended Shoppers Drug Mart at 416 St. Clair Street in Chatham and approached the check-out asking about lottery scratch tickets.

When the clerk pulled out the tray to allow the man to view the tickets, he allegedly grabbed the entire tray and ran out of the store.

Police were immediately notified.

The value of stolen scratch tickets was estimated at $173.

At 12:28 a.m. the 33-year-old Walpole Island man was located on King Street, arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
