New ‘Soup Cellar Pantry’ at Knox

If you’ve never been to (or are not aware of) the local Soup Cellar, you have to check it out.

Operating every Monday out of Knox Presbyterian Church, the Soup Cellar offers a free hot lunch to anyone who needs it, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Run by an amazing group of volunteers, the program attracts many local people, some of whom don’t really need a free lunch, but who come in for the companionship, and then leave a donation for the program.

A new twist is the addition of the Soup Cellar Pantry.

Every Thursday, people can come in and pick up all kinds of donated items, from baked goods to pizza, and from fresh fruit and veggies to clothing.

Organizers have been very pleased with the response, ESPECIALLY with the donations coming in.

The staff of the program spend many many hours preparing lunch, organizing giveaways and, of course, cleaning up, and, in my opinion, don’t get anywhere NEAR enough credit for their amazing efforts.

You can also pick up a copy of the schedule of the free meals offered by almost every church in town.

And…. the great folks from the Health Unit are there regularly, with information about services locally, free gifts and regular draws for nice prizes.

Come and see the Soup Cellar and Soup Cellar Pantry! Enjoy a hot meal! Meet some new people!

And… if you’re so inclined, make a donation.

It’s a great program.
