There was a massive spirit day at WDSS in Wallaceburg on Friday, as the annual ‘Bronze Boot’ festivities took place at the school.
The Sr. Girls Basketball team had a game against Petrolia, the Varsity Boys Football Team played the annual Bronze Boot game and the Jr. Girls had a basketball game in the evening.
There was also a handball tournament for grade 11 and 12 homeroom classes and a Dodge Ball tournament for the Grade 9 and 10 classes.
Organizers say there was excellent participation, lots of spirit wear, including the brand new ‘Bronze Boot’ t-shirts and many homeroom classes also made their own t-shirts.
There was also a pep-rally at the end of the day, where the fall teams were introduced, and a dance-off was held among the two girls basketball teams and the football team. The senior girls ended up winning this competition.
A lot of effort was put forward the Student Athletic Association, Student Council, and the fall athletics coaches.

Job fair success
The weather didn’t dampen the spirits of over 400 local job seekers hoping to make a connection with one of 25 employers looking to fill over 400 positions.
The CK Works! Community Job Fair was a project brought together by the Chatham Kent Employment Resource Centre and Chatham Kent Workforce Planning Board to assist employers in meeting their hiring needs.
It was held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the John D Bradley Centre in Chatham.
The Employment Resource Centre was on hand and helped many job seekers fine tune their resumes and help prepare them to bring their ‘A Game’ to the job fair with interview tips, final checks, and positive encouragement.
They also showcased the Community Job Board, a free resource for employers and job seekers that brings daily notifications of new postings (both from Municipal and community jobs) directly to your inbox.

“It’s exciting to see so many people out today, despite the weather,” stated Kristy Jacobs, project manager for the Chatham Kent Workforce Planning Board.
“It shows that our workforce is engaged and looking for opportunities, and it reminds us that the ‘hidden job market’ is one all job seekers really need to be accessing. Sometimes, when you’re job seeking it feels like there aren’t any jobs out there, but events like this prove that there are a variety of jobs available at any given time; you just need to know where to find them.”
Employers overwhelmingly reported that they felt there was a very good turn out of job seekers and they were pleased with the day.
Chatham Kent Workforce Planning Board is committed to ongoing research to enhance local labour market planning in the Chatham-Kent region.

Big donation coming to Foundation of CKHA
The Foundation of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is set to announce a huge donation to their on-going campaign.
On Tuesday, October 17 the Foundation will announce a $600,000 donation to their Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign.
The campaign was Launched in 2014 with a goal of raising $6.9 million for the purchase of critically needed diagnostic imaging equipment, the Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign has raised over $4.6 million to date.
The campaign was recently relaunched in August 2017 with a target completion date of March 31, 2017.
The announcement will take place at the Chatham Campus on Tuesday.

Special Fall Storytimes at the Wallaceburg Branch of the CKPL
How-To Wash those Germs Away
On Friday, October 22 at 10:30 am at Wallaceburg Branch, the last ‘Friday Friends’ program will feature germs. Join us for a special program on dirt and germs with guest, Lisa Tetrault, from Chatham-Kent Health Unit who will be showing us how to wash dirt and germs away. Wallaceburg staff will be having some fun with stories and activities on dirt too. Everyone is welcome.
P. A. Day Program – Yum, It’s Storytime! at Wallaceburg Branch
Join Wallaceburg Branch, CKPL, on Friday, October 29 at 10:30 a.m. for Yum, It’s Storytime! This special storytime will include stories, songs and healthy snacks, as well as food facts and food related toys, with a visit from a Registered Dietitian. Children of all ages and their families are welcome to this drop in program with Super Kids CK.
