Long underwear, Santa & best wishes for 2018

By Glen Turner – Special to the Sydenham Current

Time for reflections on this time of the year.

Well, since the weather is topic ONE everywhere… a couple of things.

1. I had hoped that this winter DIDN’T include long underwear as a daily need.

2. I’ve already used my snowblower more this winter that in the previous three years.

3. DAMN, it’s cold! We haven’t been to the Dog Park since it got this bad.

Then there’s Christmas.

It was quiet for me, but I DID get to be Santa on Christmas Day for the ACL folks at First Baptist.

Third year in a row.

I don’t do decorations or a tree, but I’ve had nice compliments on my outside lights.

And… I really should write a book about my experiences as Santa over the years. It makes me smile just to think about so many of them.

And of course, the NEW YEAR.

Well, I used to love New Year’s Eve, rotating dinner parties with four or five couples, first house, an aperitif, second place, salad… third home served the entrée, then travel for dessert, and one more stop for liqueurs.

Without a few designated drivers, that doesn’t happen much any more.

Question, do people still make New Year’s resolutions? I don’t any more.

More important, do people actually follow those resolutions?

In any case, best wishes for a prosperous 2018.
