Taxi driver assaulted during robbery

Police are investigating after a robbery in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege yesterday morning, around 6 a.m. a driver from Courtesy Cab picked up a man at the bus shelter on Pine Street. Upon approaching the intersection of Eugenie Street and John Street, the man told the driver to stop.

At this time, the man allegedly assaulted the driver while demanding money, police say.

The man did not get any money and fled on foot down John Street towards Tweedsmuir Avenue.

The man is described as white, 5’10”, 180 pounds, 40-50 years old with a scruffy beard. He was last seen wearing a dark coloured two piece track suit, police say.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated by EMS.
