WAMBO is teaming up with WDSS by the launching a new Youth Ambassador program. WAMBO is giving out two $1,500 bursaries to graduating WDSS students. Applicants will need to submit a written 700 to 1000 word essay on ā€œwhy volunteering is important to you and your communityā€. Applications are due by June 1. WAMBO 30 is taking place from August 10th to 12th this summer.

The 3rd annual Special Needs conference took place on Walpole Island this week. A highlight of the event was a presentation by Temple Grandin, a world-renowned spoeksperson for autism. Watch for a full story on the Sydenham Current.

Officials from the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs visited Chatham-Kent this week assessing how flood-damaged properties may be covered under Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontario. Although the program has not yet been activated, residents and business owners who have suffered property damage due to the flood are urged to contact the municipality.

Residents and business owners who have extra garbage due to last weekā€™s flooding will be able to have it removed during the week of March 5th. Municipal officials say Thamesville will be serviced on Tuesday March 6 (regular garbage plus excess garbage bags/boxes etc.) and Friday (excess garbage plus bulk items). Chatham streets impacted by flooding will be serviced on Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 8.

After learning about homelessness, the Grade 3-4 class at A.A. Wright Public School in Wallaceburg decided to do something to help. Gretchen Gamble, the Grade 3-4 teacher at the school, says some of the children in her class were very concerned for homeless people through the winter. The Hope Haven is a new homeless shelter for men, located at 183 Wellington St. W. in Chatham.

The Wallaceburg Concert Band recently received a $5,000 donation from the Wallaceburg Kinsmen Club. The funds will go towards the purchase of musical instruments and supporting equipment.

And finally… the Dresden Kinsmen Club have announced the lineup for Kinstock, which is set for Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14. Runaway Angel, Julia Haggarty, Dirt Country and The Chasers will perform on the Friday. Andrew Hyatt, The Reklaws, Kansas Stone, Kelsi Maye and Dresdenā€™s own Jacklyn Wills will perform on the Saturday. Tickets are available by calling 519-683-4368.
