Cause undetermined after apartment fire in Chatham

The cause is undetermined after an apartment fire in Chatham on Tuesday.

“Firefighters from Stations #1 & #2 in Chatham responded to 41 Princess St. S at 5:30 p.m. yesterday,” Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials said in a press release.

“When crews arrived on scene, they found a working fire in the upper apartment of the home and the location of the tenants was unknown. Firefighters forced entry into the upper apartment, conducted a primary search, and extinguished the fire.”

Fire officials say there were no injuries.

“EMS, CKPS and Victim Services were all on scene and assisted in finding accommodation for four tenants,” fire officials said.

“There were a number of cats in the home and firefighters were able to rescue and revive some. Animal Control was also on scene.”

Reports say an unknown number of pets were found dead after the blaze.
