Vehicle rolls onto its roof, impaired driving charges laid

A Chatham man faces impaired driving charges after a crash on Friday.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say on Friday night at approximately 8:30 p.m., police attended the area of Keil Drive and Riverview Drive in regards to a single motor vehicle collision.

Police allege that a male party had been driving a vehicle and struck the bridge causing the vehicle to roll onto its roof.

Through investigation, the first officer on scene believed that the man was driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested on scene, police say.

The man was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests which indicated that he had over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his body, police officials allege.

A 46-year-old Chatham man has been charged with Operate Motor Vehicle in Excess of 80 milligrams.

He was released from custody with a future court date.

The accused and his passenger did not suffer any serious injuries.
