Assault charges laid in two separate incidents

The Chatham-Kent Police Service have laid assault charges after two separate, unrelated incidents on the weekend.

Police officials allege that on Sunday morning, police received information about a domestic disturbance that occurred earlier in the night.

At this time, police learned that the man assaulted his girlfriend and damaged her cell phone during an argument, police allege.

Through investigation, police learned that this was not the first incident of domestic violence during their relationship.

The 42-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000 and two counts of assault.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

In a separate incident, on Sunday afternoon, a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation resulting in a man assaulting and threatening his wife while in their home.

The woman was treated and released from hospital.

The 44-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
