Drugs, stolen bank cards seized during traffic stop

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege on July 16 at around 11:30 a.m. an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on Queen Street in Chatham.

The officer confirmed the driver was suspended and he was arrested.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of various forms of identification and credit cards from a wallet reported stolen earlier in July.

Through investigation, the officer learned that the man was currently bound by conditions not to possess any bank cards that were not in his name, police say.

The 34-year-old Chatham has been charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and failing to comply.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

During the traffic stop, a strong odour of marijuana was detected coming from the passenger side of the vehicle.

The passenger’s purse, which was on the floor in plain view, was searched and various drugs, including methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and hydromorphone were found.

She was also in possession of a digital scale, clear plastic bags, glass pipes and quantity of cash.

The 40-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with five counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking and failing to comply with her release conditions.

She was also been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
