The 23rd year of the Dresden Terry Fox Run will be held on Sunday, September 16 at the Dresden Royal Canadian Legion Branch 113, with an open start time from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last year the Dresden Terry Fox Run raised $34,000 and organizer Cindy Brewer says they are hoping to continue their positive trend.

“The committee met and we typically will set a goal at our committee meeting but it has been so fantastic,” Brewer told the Sydenham Current.

“It’s our third year in a row that Dresden was number one per capita for all of Ontario for dollars raised in a community. So our goal is to just hang on to that. You know what though, any money that we raise goes straight to research though so it doesn’t matter because all money is good money when it’s for Terry.”

On Friday night, September 14 the Dresden Fire Department is running a ‘Lite Bite Takeover’ from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Legion as a fundraiser with the community. There will be food, fun and a 50/50 draw.

The Dresden Kinsmen are encouraging the community to join them on Saturday, September 15 for ‘Wing Night’ and music, where people can enjoy an evening out while supporting the Terry Fox cause.

“I am really looking forward to it,” Brewer said.

“I get the feeling it is going to be a good year. Dresden has a very unique vibe for the Terry Fox Run. We just sort of own it here. Terry really lives here.”

Pledge forms for the run can be picked up at multiple locations, including: McFadden Heating and Cooling, Dresden Raceway and McKellar’s Flowers and Gifts. People can also sign up online at www.terryfox.org/run.

“If they don’t have pledges they can just come on run day and make an on site donations as opposed to pledges, that’s fine too,” Brewer added.
