Pancake supper held in Wallaceburg (Photos)

Families gathered at St. James Anglican Church in Wallaceburg for the annual ‘Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper’.

Families were greeted by community and congregation members from St. James Anglican Church and Knox Presbyterian Church at the event, which ran from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

All sales and donations went towards the Vacation Bible Camp… which is held during the summer for children aged 12 and under.

The camp, though it is run by many volunteers, is led and coordinated by event coordinator, Sheldon Parsons.

“The pancake suppers have been a tradition in the Anglican churches for many, many years… but instead, we now support youth work and youth ministries,” Parsons told the Sydenham Current.

“We decided that we would use all of the portions of the event to fund the Vacation Bible Camp. They run those themed camps in cooperation and partnership with the Knox Presbyterian Church. So the churches get together and provide this program. One year it is at the one church, next year it is at the other.”

Tickets were sold at the event for five dollars and three dollars for children aged five and over.

Children younger than five were free.

On the menu at the supper was pancakes, made by volunteers, and sausage, as well as beverages, condiments and dessert.
