The Municipality of Chatham-Kent Arts & Culture team is preparing to support several upcoming community events, including RetroFest and the CK Arts Council Studio Tour.
Municipal officials said ARTSpace will adjust its hours for RetroFest on May 23, opening from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. instead of its regular noon to 5 p.m. schedule.
During the event, participants will be able to take part in a drop-in collage activity focused on creating artwork inspired by classic cars.
Staff from the Capitol Theatre will also host an outdoor concession stand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., selling pop, candy and popcorn. CK Museums will also be on site with a family-friendly drop-in activity.
The fourth annual CK Arts Council Studio Tour is scheduled for May 30 and 31 and will feature more than 100 artists exhibiting work at 25 locations across Chatham-Kent.
At the Chatham Cultural Centre, Studio Two will operate as an Artist Hub, featuring nine potters, painters and weavers displaying their work.
For the studio tour weekend, ARTSpace will extend its hours to include Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Member works will be displayed and available for purchase, and visitors will be invited to contribute to a communal art piece.
Currently on exhibit at ARTSpace is “Psalms: Part One” by Bryan Halls, featuring figurative representations of Psalms 1 through 30 as part of a larger project to create artwork for all 150 Psalms.
Municipal officials said the exhibit closes May 31, the final day of the studio tour.
ARTSpace is located at 165 King St. W. in Chatham and will be closed to the public on May 27.
