Update: Measles test results are negative

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit has received the test results on the probable measles case and the results are negative for measles.

“There is no risk to the community at this time,” Public Health Unit officials said in a media release.

Chatham-Kent Public Health took a precautionary approach for these main reasons:

– The clinical history reported to the Health Unit was very convincing for measles

– There was reason to believe that the index case could have been in contact with a large number of susceptible people

– There is a limited timeframe to immunize contacts to prevent measles

“This serves as an important reminder for all residents to ensure that your immunizations are up to date – by checking with your health care provider or by calling Chatham-Kent Public Health at 519-355-1071 ext. 5900,” Public Health Unit officials said in a media release.
