In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is proudly recognizing the exceptional work done by the organization’s 300-plus volunteers.
“Our caring and compassionate volunteers provide a helping hand to not only our patients and their families and visitors, but also to our staff and physicians on a daily basis. National Volunteer Week is a great opportunity for us to recognize the ongoing contributions of our volunteers and how they make a difference at CKHA,” said Sue Pepper, CKHA’s Volunteer Resource Specialist.
During the week, CKHA volunteers will be recognized with thank you notes, complimentary refreshments, draws for prizes and a volunteer appreciation lunch. The organization’s social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, will also feature profiles of select volunteers to showcase their roles within the hospital.
“Volunteers play an integral role in the patient experience at CKHA. From helping patients navigate the hospital to serving as a Patient Advisor or assisting staff, we’d like to express appreciation for our volunteers who dedicate their skills and time to our organization and the community,” said Lori Marshall, President and CEO, CKHA.
Last fall, new volunteer opportunities became available with the launch of CKHA’s Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP). HELP is designed to prevent confusion and physical deconditioning for elderly patients in hospital. Volunteers with HELP will engage patients in targeted interaction tasks intended to be done through social interaction. Specialized training and support from CKHA’s Elder Life Specialist will be received by volunteers for this program. Ideal candidates for HELP are compassionate individuals who enjoy spending one-on-one time with seniors. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and are available at: www.ckha.on.ca/volunteer.
A variety of volunteer opportunities are available at both the Chatham and Wallaceburg sites. Opportunities at the Chatham Site include: Information Desk, Surgery, Day Surgery, Ambulatory Care, Continuing Care, Emergency Department, Oncology and Boutique Grand. The Wallaceburg Site is in need of volunteers at the Information Desk and Serendipity Gift Shop. CKHA is also seeking Patient Advisors, a volunteer position open to patients or family members of patients who have had a recent experience receiving care or service from CKHA.
