Traffic enforcement blitz

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Thursday, the Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Management Section conducted a Traffic Enforcement blitz which was a directed toward Roadway Safety and focused on distracted driving, aggressive driving, and proper seatbelt use.

As a result, several violations were observed and 60 tickets were issued.

15 of the tickets issued were for distracted driving through cell-phone use, while the remaining tickets were issued for speeding, ignorance to seatbelt use and infractions related to vehicle and insurance documentation.

The associated penalties for the listed offences are severe, with seatbelt infractions applying a $240 fine along with two demerit points, while distracted driving related offences hold a $615 fine for first convictions settled in court, with three demerit points and a 3-day license suspension.

Man charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On April 18th and 19th a man and his wife were inside their residence in Wheatley when they became involved in an argument.

On both occasions, the arguments escalated into a physical altercation.

On one date, the woman was thrown to the ground and on the other, an object was thrown at her.

She did not require medical attention on either date.

On Thursday night at 7 p.m. officers attended their residence and located the 44-year-old Wheatley man.

He was arrested and charged with assault and assault with a weapon.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.
