‘Memories for Sale’ film up for six awards

A documentary, featuring Wallaceburg writer John Gardiner, is up for a handful of international awards.

The ‘Memories for Sale’ film is nominated for a total of six awards at the ReelHeART International Film Festival.

The event will be held this July in Toronto.

The documentary will be screened at Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto on Friday, July 5.

Directed by Gardiner’s grandson, Mitchell Graszat, 19, the documentary is up for Best Canadian Film, Best Short Documentary, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best First Time Film and Best Subject.

Gardiner said the film, which is based on last spring’s ‘Memories for Sale Book and Other Stuff Tour’, has already earned a number of awards on the film festival circuit this past winter.

Gardiner said his grandson has been making movies since he was a young boy growing up in Barrie, Ontario and he is currently attending film studies at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo.

“I will also be at the Festival selling copies of the book,” Gardiner said, adding that signed copies of his book are available for sale at the Wallaceburg & District Museum and the Wallaceburg Wellness Centre.

“Also, the book tour continues… I’ll be reading in Goderich, Wingham, Port Elgin and Kincardine this summer and will be the ‘Writer in Residence’ at the Kingsville Folk Festival in early August.”

Gardiner published his literary collection, ‘Memories for Sale: Tales from a Small Town’ back in 2017.
