The Ontario government is investing more than $3.1 million in Lambton County to give people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless the housing and support services they need.
Government officials say Ontario’s investment will help those most in need find stable housing and gain access to support services, such as counselling, addiction services and life-skills training.
“Our government knows that one size doesn’t fit all. Our funding is flexible, so communities can invest in housing solutions that work for them,” stated Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, in a press release.
“Ontario invests more in housing and homelessness, including supportive housing, than any other level of government.”
This funding is provided through Ontario’s Home for Good program and Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative.
“This important investment means Lambton County can offer programs that meet the unique needs of individuals and families in our community,” stated Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton.
“It will help our most vulnerable neighbours find homes with the supports they need to rebuild their lives.”
|government officials say another property in Sarnia, Vision Expansion at 299 Wellington Street, received $1.9 million in joint federal-provincial funding through the Investment in Affordable Housing Program for 19 one-bedroom apartments for seniors.
The Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative gives money to areas of Ontario that have greater housing needs, more people who are homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. How and where the funding is spent depends on the needs of people in these communities.
Ontario has more than 20 supportive housing programs, including Home for Good. These assist people with a wide range of support, including Indigenous people, those with mental health issues, people with developmental disabilities, seniors, youth, and people who have experienced homelessness.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is part of a cross-government approach working with other ministries to identify opportunities to streamline and improve coordination of the province’s supportive housing programs.
