Police: Theft, drugs, warrants, curfew

Theft in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime yesterday morning between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. unknown suspects forced their way into a locked garage on James Street.

Once inside, the suspects stole a DeWalt table saw and bicycle.

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $1,000.

Man charged with drug possession

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On June 18, 2019 the man was released from Court with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Just before 2:30 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol located the man on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

As the officer placed the man under arrest, he threw a glass pipe and plastic bag containing methamphetamine.

The 46-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with failing to comply with his release conditions and drug possession.

Through investigation, police also learned that the man was wanted in connection with an assault earlier this summer in Highgate.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with breaching curfew

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Shortly after 4:00 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious man in the area of Wallace Street in Wallaceburg. Upon police arrival, the man fled on foot. Officers found the man hiding in a nearby family member’s home and he was taken into custody.

Through investigation, police learned that the man was currently bound by a curfew and was wanted for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failing to comply and breach of probation.

The 40-year-old Wallaceburg man has been additionally charged with failing to comply with his curfew. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Pair charged with trespassing

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, shortly after 10 p.m. officers observed two bicycles in the ditch along English Line.

Through investigation, officers located two men attempting to steal items from a private property.

The 34-year-old men, both from Chatham, were charged with trespassing.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police arrested a man in Wallaceburg wanted for driving while under suspension.

The 39-year-old man was transported to police headquarters and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On July 29, 2019 the man was released from custody pending a future court date.

On August 20, 2019 the man failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Last night, police located the man and he was arrested.

The 35-year-old Ridgetown man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Update: Men charged following traffic complaint

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Earlier this month, police asked for the public’s help in identifying four men as part of traffic complaint on Erie Street South in Wheatley.

With the power of social media, three of the four men were identified.

This week, the three men were charged with careless driving and failing to wear a proper helmet under the Off Road Vehicles Act.

The fourth man has yet to be identified.
