Thunderhawks top Blades in Wallaceburg

The Wallaceburg Thunderhawks took care of home ice on Saturday night when they hosted the Blenheim Blades in a Junior ‘C’ hockey tilt.

The final score was 4-1.

Wallaceburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period with two powerplay goals, and they never looked back.

Jeremy Oriet opened the scoring at the 5:38 mark of the first, while Myles Fraser scored at the 16:06 mark.

Oriet scored his second of the night 8:15 into the second period, while Jake Vancoillie scored a few minutes later to make the score 4-0.

Vancoillie finished with 3 points, 1 goal and 2 assists, Oriet finished with the two goals. Fraser also recorded multiple points, finishing with 1 goal and 1 assist.

Nolan Hakr made 16 saves in the win, only allowing 1 goal.

Wallaceburg out shot the Blades 30-17.

A total of 47 stuffed animals were tossed on the ice during the game, which was their annual Teddy Bear Toss contest. The toys will be donated to the Salvation Army in Wallaceburg.

The Thunderhawks now have a 3-20-0-1 record on the year and remain in last place in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Blenheim’s record drops to 7-12-1-2 on the season. They are tied with Petrolia for the 6th spot in the standings, with 17 points.

Wallaceburg will travel to Essex on Tuesday, before hosting the 73’s on Saturday, December 14 at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena. Puck drops at 8 p.m. The Thunderhawks will travel to Amherstburg the following night to face the Admirals.
