Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 23-year-old Pain Court man is facing charges after Chatham-Kent police say he was caught driving 175 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Pioneer Line.

The incident stemmed from a complaint received by the Chatham-Kent Police Service on June 3 from a concerned resident who reported a white pickup truck travelling at excessive speeds on Pioneer Line between St. Clair Road and Prince Albert Road during the early morning hours.
Based on the information provided, officers with the Traffic Management Office conducted targeted speed enforcement in the area.
Police said that at approximately 6:50 a.m. on June 4, officers observed a vehicle matching the description travelling eastbound at a significant rate of speed. After confirming the vehicle was travelling at 175 km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone, officers conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was charged with stunt driving for travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit and with speeding under the Highway Traffic Act.
As a result of the charges, the vehicle was impounded for 14 days and the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days under provincial administrative penalties.
“The Chatham-Kent Police Service encourages residents to continue reporting traffic concerns. When residents and police work together, we can address dangerous driving behaviour and help make our roads safer for everyone,” police said.
