Thunderhawks double up Kings in Wallaceburg

The Wallaceburg Thunderhawks took care of home ice on Saturday night, doubling up the Dresden Kings, 4-2.

Josh Gibbs scored 2 goals in the third period, including the game winner, as Wallaceburg rallied from behind for the win.

Geoffry VandenBoorn gave the Kings a 1-0 lead after one period, scoring at the 6:55 mark of the opening frame.

Jake Vancoillie evened the scored for Wallaceburg with a powerplay goal at 2:26 in the second.

Derek Shaw responded for the Kings with a goal at 14:21 of the second giving Dresden a 2-1 lead entering into the third period.

Brody Fraleigh quickly tied the game back up, just 3:51 into the third.

Gibbs scored the game winner for the Thunderhawks at the 6:52 mark, before adding an empty net goal with 55 seconds remaining in the game.

Nolan Hakr made 28 saves to earn the victory, while Aiden Lucyk made 25 saves in the loss.

Wallaceburg improved their record to 4-25-0-1 on the season, still last place in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Dresden falls to 10-18-0-2 on the year and they sit in 6th place in the West Stobbs Division standings.

Wallaceburg will hit the road on Sunday, December 29, when they battle the Amherstburg Admirals in their final game of 2019.

Dresden will be off until the new year, as they will host Petrolia on Friday night, January 3.
