Man charged with break and enter

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, a concerned citizen contacted police to report a man damaging a residence in Chatham.

Officers attended the area and observed the man leaving the home with several frames.

Through investigation, police learned that the man had smashed out four windows to the home of a family member, who was not home.

The man also tore the mailbox off the residence, damaged a metal railing and broke a family photo inside the home.

The 24-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with break and enter, mischief over $5,000, theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Foot chase leads to drug charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 2 a.m. this morning, officers on general patrol located a man in the area of King Street and William Street in Chatham who was wanted for fraud related offences.

The man fled on foot and was observed by officers throwing something towards a sewer grate.

The man was taken into custody a short distance away and arrested on the outstanding warrant.

When officers returned to the sewer area, they recovered five hydromorph contin pills on top of the grate.

The 24-year-old man of no fixed address was additionally charged with drug possession and breach of probation for being in possession of unlawful drugs.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious man near a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Officers located the man and through investigation learned that he was wanted by London Police Service.

The 49-year-old man was arrested and turned over to officers from London for court purposes.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, a man wanted for domestic related offences and failing to attend court was arrested in London.

The 20-year-old man was transported back to Chatham-Kent for court purposes.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Just before 4 a.m. this morning, a man wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions, was arrested by Leamington OPP.

The 25-year-old man was transported back to Chatham-Kent for court purposes.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Theft of boat motor in Tilbury

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 6 a.m. unknown suspects entered an unlocked shed on Canal Street.

Once inside, the suspects stole a 9.9 HP Mercury outboard boat motor and various tools.

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $3,600.

Police looking for the public’s assistance

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On February 8 around 2 a.m. police responded to an assault, which had just occurred between two women on King Street in Chatham.

The victim, a 24-year-old local woman, sustained injuries and was treated at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

She was described as a white female, in her mid 20’s with blonde hair.

Update – Road Safety Traffic Blitz

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last week, members of the Traffic Unit were out in full force conducting enforcement throughout the Municipality, specifically looking for drivers using their cell phones, motorists not wearing their seat belts, aggressive driving and any other offences that would cause a driver to be distracted.

As a result:

– 61 motorists were charged with speeding

– 27 motorists were charged with document related offences

– 15 motorists were charged with using their cell phones while driving

– 11 people were charged with not wearing their seat belt

– 7 motorists were charged with offences contrary to rules of the road

– 7 motorists were charged with driving with expired validation stickers

– 1 person was charged with not wearing a helmet on a powered bicycle

The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind everyone that education through enforcement initiatives will continue throughout the year in an effort to keep all road users in our community safe.
