The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a water saefty bulletin for the region, as upwards of 35mm of rain is possible this week.
“A low pressure system making its way through southern Ontario is anticipated to bring 10-20mm of rain over the next 48 hours, with the potential for further rain later in the week,” SCRCA officials stated.
“Recent snowmelt and rain have contributed to wet soil conditions, which has the potential to contribute to increased runoff into watercourses, ponding, and possible increased erosion and seepage issues. Water levels are anticipated to be elevated, and may breach bankfull conditions into natural floodplain areas, parks and farm fields.”
SCRCA officials say river banks are expected to be slippery, with possible minor erosion.
“Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift moving water,” SCRCA officials say.
“Children and pets should be kept away from the water. The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.”
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely, SCRCA officials added.
This water saefty bulletin will remain in effect until Saturday, March 14, 2020 unless otherwise updated.
