It’s time to focus & slow down

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

An ancient proverb says that “he who chases two rabbits catches none.”

Let’s face it, we live in a society that applauds the multitasker and encourages the pursuit of many things at once.

When asked, “How are you?” the familiar refrain has become, “Oh, I’m so busy!”

Somehow this response serves as some kind of badge of honour, like some lofty height one must attain.

We have glorified the tyranny of busyness at the expense of our own peace.

But focus is really what we need, not another activity to add to our already overloaded, frenetic schedule.

You can only catch one rabbit at a time.

Jesus knew this, and knew that He could only reach so many people in any given day.

This is why the Bible tells us in Mark 1:35 that “in the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus arose and went out and departed to a lonely place, and was praying there.”

There is a message here for us, and it’s this: SLOW DOWN.

Decide today that you are not superman or superwoman and that you can’t do everything.

Give yourself permission to just say ‘no’ at times so that you maintain your focus on what’s really important in your life.

If Jesus did this then we can, too.
