Spike belt deployed, drone used after police pursuit

Officers used a spike belt and a drone to helt them make two arrests on Friday afternoon, April 10, 2020.

Police officials allege at 3:20 p.m. while on general patrol, an officer observed a vehicle with unattached plates and that was believed to be stolen driving in the area of Allison Line and Fargo Road.

When the officer activated his emergency lights and siren, the vehicle failed to stop and fled down Middle Line towards Charing Cross Road.

The vehicle turned onto Horton Line where an officer had deployed a spike belt in which the vehicle struck causing it to drive on a rim and flat tire.

The pursuit continued into Chatham where it was terminated due to safety concerns after it ran a red light.

The vehicle finally came to a stop on Grand Ave West where multiple people fled on foot.

After a search of the area with the help of a drone, police located a male suspected as the driver.

A Chatham man was arrested and charged.

After further investigation, police also located and arrested the driver who was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving and multiple other Highway Traffic Act infractions.

During a search of the vehicle, police located crystal meth inside and the first suspect was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance as well.

Both were released with a future court date of July 7, 2020.
