Input sought for Lake Erie Shoreline Study presentation

The municipality is seeking public input to help shape a presentation on the Chatham-Kent Lake Erie Shoreline Study to be made to Chatham-Kent Council Monday night, May 4, 2020.

Municipal officials say author Peter Zuzek will be presenting highlights of the 181-page report before Council.

“The sheer volume of the information in the study makes it impossible for Mr. Zuzek to review every item in it during a council session,” stated Thomas Kelly, general manager for infrastructure and engineering services, in a press release.

“We have made the study available online and ask that anyone who has questions about a particular section or topic to please forward those questions to us in advance. We will then pass the questions on to Mr. Zuzek to be addressed.”

Questions may be emailed to ckies@chatham-kent.ca by noon on Monday, May 4, 2020.

The public can view the study, here.

The study, two years in the making, explores the influence of climate change on future coastal hazards due to changes in storms and ice cover and the associated challenges for the coastal communities of Chatham-Kent, Municipal officials say.

The Municipality, along with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, researchers from Zuzek Inc., and the University of Waterloo collaborated on the study.

Council will also examine a report on recommendations in the study during its Monday May 4 night session beginning at 6 p.m.

That report can be found, here.

Wallaceburg Councillors Carmen McGregor and Aaron Hall are meeting electronically on Friday morning, May 1, 2020 at 11 a.m. to discuss the report.

They will be holding a virtual meeting using the Zoom app.
