Dresden Raceway kicks off their 2020 season

Dresden Raceway kicked off their 2020 season on Sunday, June 7, in front of no fans due to COVID-19.

Donovan Z Tam bolted to victory in the feature race for owner/trainer Danny Mills of Wallaceburg.

The four-year-old gelding got away fourth for driver Marc St. Louis after Bayonet and Garrett Rooney blasted to the front from post seven to take the lead, cutting fractions of 29, 59 and 1:30.1.

St. Louis pulled Donovan Z Tam before the quarter and started his move through the field and stepped off the last quarter in 30.2 for the four and a quarter lengths win in 2:01 flat.

The silence was deafening on the day as you could hear every hoof beat and every chirp from the drivers with no crowd at the usual boisterous facility.

St. Louis who had four wins on the day said it was nice to be back at Dresden.

“We’ve been away too long, it feels good to be doing what we love again,” he said in a press release.

The handle was down from last year’s opening day with a total off-track handle of $20,607.

“Our handle will be much higher next week,” stated Gary Patterson, announcer and spokesperson for the Dresden Raceway.

“We have a great product with some awesome trainers and great drivers, I promise our handle will be much better next week.”
