Wallaceburg’s 2020 Canada Day festivities cancelled due to COVID-19

The Canada Day festivities in Wallaceburg have been cancelled for the second year in a row.

This year’s cancellation is due solely to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This was indeed a very difficult decision due to COVID-19 but the Wallaceburg Canada Day Committee has cancelled Canada Day July 1st 2020,” Leesa Ervin, chair of the committee, told the Sydenham Current.

“We would like to thank personal donations, business donations, donations from vendors, gift cards donated from local restaurants and businesses.”

Ervin said the committee has raised $3,602, which is in the bank, and have $1,700 in trust with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

“One of the most important things to mention is thank you to our committee, volunteers and those in the background making such an impact to get involved with Canada Day here in Wallaceburg and making it a success,” Ervin said.

“Thank you to all that came out to our events a supported us. Without you we couldn’t have raised this amount.”

Ervin added: “We will continue to fundraise so we are able to have a huge July 1st celebration in 2021. Thank-you Wallaceburg.”

The event was called off last year due to a number of circumstances, beyond the control of the organizers.
