Police: Cruiser struck, U-Haul trailers tagged, assault, impaired

Mischief in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday at 7 a.m. unknown suspects spray painted eight U-Haul vehicles parked on Merritt Avenue.

The graffiti consisted of the acronyms BLM, FTP and anarchy symbol.

Total damage has been estimated at $5,000.

Woman charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a disturbance on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman had assaulted two people known to her.

The 43-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.

She was released pending a future court date of August 26, 2020.

Youth charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 31, 2020 a youth was released from custody with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Yesterday afternoon, police received information that the youth failed to obey his curfew both Friday and Saturday night.

The 16-year-old Chatham teen was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was released pending a future court date of August 10, 2020.

Man charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 9 p.m. last night, police responded to the report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Talbot Street West in Wheatley.

Officers located the vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated on Erie Street North.

Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

The man was transported to the OPP station in Leamington for breath tests.

An 18-year-old Wheatley man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was released pending a future court date of June 23, 2020.

Man charged with domestic related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Dresden.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation resulting in the man assaulting his wife.

The 29-year-old Dresden man was arrested and charged with assault and assault with a weapon.

He was released pending a future court date of August 28, 2020

Police looking for the public’s assistance

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Shortly after 6 p.m. last night, an officer on general patrol was operating a marked cruiser through the intersection of Erie Street and Talbot Road in Wheatley when a small grey Honda Civic turned in front of her causing a collision.

Luckily, the officer was not injured.

The driver fled the scene and the vehicle was located a short time later, abandoned, on Julian Street.

Police are looking for assistance in identifying the person driving at the time of the collision.
