Shoplifting leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham.

Officers located the man and upon being searched incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of items stolen from Shoppers Drug Mart and suspected psilocybin.

A 37-year-old Chatham man has been charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and drug possession.

He was released pending a future court date of August 24, 2020.

Man charged with resist arrest

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday, police located a man in Chatham who was wanted in connection with a mischief investigation at an apartment complex in Ridgetown, where he ‘keyed’ a vehicle, causing about $5,000 damage.

As the officers placed the man under arrest, he broke free after attempting to elbow an officer in the face.

The man fled on foot, however was taken into custody a short distance away.

The 23-year-old Ridgetown man has been charged with mischief, uttering threats, resist arrest and escape lawful custody.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Neighbour dispute leads to mischief

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a mischief complaint at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man broke two windows of his neighbour’s home with a slingshot.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000.

The 33-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with mischief.

He was released pending a future court date of September 4, 2020.

Man arrested on outstanding warrant

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police located a man in Blenheim who was wanted for breaching conditions of his probation order.

A 30-year-old Bothwell man was arrested and released pending a future court date of September 4, 2020.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday, members of the Traffic Unit conducted speed enforcement on Pain Court Line, Fairview Line, McNaughton Avenue and Longwoods Road.

A total of 68 vehicles were stopped and charged with speeding.

Just remember you can’t get caught speeding… if you don’t speed.
