Rob Herder of Chatham

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Robert “Rob” Herder of Chatham on Monday June 29th, 2020 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in his 64th year.

Cherished son of the late Alex and Jenny Herder.

Beloved husband and best friend of Mary Ellen.

Loving father of Jason, and Justine Herder, both of Chatham, and Jeremy and Scotty Weaver.

“Momo” to Hailey, Finley, and Sinead.

Dear brother of Carl (Gail) Herder, Shirley (Rodger Delany), Karen Vansteenkiste, and Ingrid Thomas.

Rob was known for his love of all things Disney, his dedication to his family and to the community of Chatham-Kent with 43 years of service as a member of the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

Rob was known for his work throughout the community with involvement in The Law Enforcement Torch For Special Olympics Ontario, Cops for Cancer, and numerous drama productions with Take A Bow Productions.

Rob was an avid marathon runner and tennis player with ties to the Chatham Tennis Club, University Tennis Centre (London) and being the Canadian Coordinator of the Pop Tennis Canada.

A special thank you to the nursing staff who attended to Rob and his family.

Your love and compassion will never be forgotten.

Friends wishing to pay their respects to Rob are invited to call the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington St. West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 in advance to reserve a time on Friday July 3rd with visiting from 1 to 9 pm.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, you must schedule your visitation time in advance.

All attendees as mandated by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario must wear a mask at all visitations and funerals.

The funeral service for Rob will be streamed live from the funeral home on Saturday July 4th, 2020 at 1 pm with Police Chaplain Pastor Michael Koppes and Rev. John Maroney officiating.
