Commercial motor vehicle enforcement traffic initiative
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last week, as part of our commitment to road safety, the Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Section partnered with the Ministry of Transportation Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officers to examine the road worthiness of commercial motor vehicles travelling on our local roads.
During this two-day initiative, officers conducted the following investigations:
Commercial Motor Vehicles Inspected – 55
Commercial Motor Vehicles taken out of service as a result of the above Inspections – 46
Licence Plates seized due to Unsafe Conditions – 2
Tickets issued as a result of the Inspections – 36
Tickets for non-inspection related stops – 25
The Chatham-Kent Police is committed to making our roadways safe for all users from pedestrians to large commercial motor vehicles.
Education and enforcement of the various traffic laws to encourage safe road use by everyone is a priority for our officers.
Shoplifting incidents in Chatham
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, a man attended Shopper’s Drug Mart on Queen Street and stole a bottle of cologne, valued at approximately $20.
Officers located the man a short time later and he was arrested.
A 42-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.
He was released pending a future court date of September 22, 2020.
The property was recovered and returned to the store.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, a woman attended Rexall Pharmacy on St. Clair Street and stole a pair of earbuds, valued at approximately $40.
Officers located the woman down the street and she was arrested.
A 37-year-old Dresden woman was charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $,000.
She was released pending a future court date of September 22, 2020.
The property was recovered and returned to the store.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Walmart.
Officers located the man near St. Clair Estates and he was arrested.
A 22-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.
He was released pending a future court date of August 14, 2020.
Pair charged following domestic dispute
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Wallaceburg.
Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation.
The 40-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault and failing to comply with his release conditions by communicating with his ex-wife.
He was released pending a future court date of August 14, 2020.
The 34-year-old Sarnia woman was arrested and charged with assault and facilitating a breach.
She was released pending a future court date of August 14, 2020.
Pair charged with communicating with each other
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police located a woman in the company of a man, with whom was on conditions not to communicate with her.
The 18-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with facilitating a breach.
She was released pending a future court date of August 18, 2020.
The 21-year-old Raleigh Township man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.
He was released pending a future court date of September 8, 2020.
Man charged with uttering threats
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early this morning, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Bothwell.
Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation.
The 33-year-old Bothwell man was arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
