Seating limit removed for CKTransit

Effective Wednesday, July 22nd CKTransit will remove the seating limit on buses temporarily imposed in March 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Municipal officials say ridership has been increasing as Chatham-Kent enters Stage 3 of Ontario’s COVID-19 Reopening Plan.

In concert with Provincial Health Guidelines, riders are highly recommended to wear face coverings on public transit vehicles.

Physical distancing will not always be possible on buses with the removal of the seating limit, Municipal officials say.

“It is important for riders to practice physical distancing wherever possible, including at bus stops,” Municipal officials said in a press release.

“Keep two metres between yourself and others. Practice good personal hygiene including frequent hand washing with soap and water or use hand sanitizer. If you are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, stay home.”

Service providers continue to perform enhanced cleaning procedures on all vehicles, Municipal officials say.
