Sarnia Fire Rescue crews rescued a person who became trapped inside a garbage truck early Monday.
Shortly after 6 a.m., crews responded to reports of a person trapped inside the truck. The individual had reportedly been sleeping in a dumpster when it was emptied into the vehicle, falling a considerable distance into the nearly empty hopper and complaining of lower back pain.
Firefighters laddered the side of the truck and climbed inside to complete a primary assessment. After determining the patient required stabilization before extrication, crews carefully packaged and safely removed the individual through the rear of the truck.
The patient was transferred to the care of Lambton EMS and transported to Bluewater Health for further assessment and treatment.
