Groundbreaking ceremony held for new Chatham apartments

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 for the new apartment complex being built on Park Avenue West in Chatham.

“The Piroli Group apartment construction is underway and is on track,” officials with Chatham-Kent Economic Development Services posted on social media.

“Thank you to everyone who attended the groundbreaking ceremony including delegates Rob Piroli, President; Steve Clark, Municipal Affairs and Housing; Rick Nicholls, MPP; and Darrin Canniff, Mayor.”

On Monday, April 27, Council approved applications for an official plan amendment, zoning by-law amendment and site plan control by Piroli.

The decision paved the way for two six-storey apartment buildings to be built on Park Avenue West in Chatham.

“In providing 244 new rental dwelling units, this project definitely meets the definition of a major rental housing development and is exactly the type of development the Municipality is trying to encourage through the (Community Improvement Plan,” said Ryan Jacques, manager of planning services, in a report.
