Update #3 – A tornado watch remains in place. Details, here. Environment Canada updated their severe thunderstorm warning at 5:18 p.m. Details, here:

Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are moving northeastward through or toward portions of the region.

In addition, a more organized line of severe thunderstorms is expected to move across the region from the west late this afternoon.

Damaging wind gusts, brief torrential downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and large hail will also be associated with some of these storms.

There also is the risk for a tornado.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Avoid areas of the building that could be affected by falling debris such as tree limbs. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
