McAllister appointed general manager of community development

Chatham-Kent Chief Administrative Officer Don Shropshire has announced the appointment of Bruce McAllister as general manager of community development.

“We are extremely pleased to bring Bruce into his new position,” Shropshire stated, in a media release.

“He has a strong combination of more than two decades of professional experience in both public and private sectors.”

Shropshire said the Municipality began a nationwide search to fill the position in September and received an excellent response.

“In the end, the interview panel was unanimous in selecting Bruce as our preferred candidate,” Shropshire said.

“Bruce’s in depth knowledge of our community, his strong relationships with Council, Municipal colleagues, developers and a host of community stakeholders set him apart from all of the other candidates.”

Municipal officials say McAllister started his career with Kent County in planning services.

He then spent 20 years in the private sector with Storey Samways and Dillon Consulting Ltd.

He returned to the public sector in 2015 serving as Chatham-Kent’s director of planning services and more recently as acting general manager of community development.

McAllister’s education includes a bachelor of environmental studies, from the School of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Waterloo. He is a registered professional planner and a leadership in energy and environmental design, accredited professional, Municipal officials say.

His community involvement includes coaching in minor hockey and baseball.

He has served as a fundraising co-chair with the United Way of Chatham-Kent and was a committee member of the Wallaceburg Community Task Force.

“In all of these roles Bruce has distinguished himself with his commitment to customer service and community engagement,” Shropshire said.

“His experience, collaborative style and strategic thinking skills will be a great addition to our management team.

McAllister said he is looking forward to the opportunity and this next chapter of his career.

“A number of foundational pieces have been put into place over the past few years to encourage growth and development in Chatham-Kent,” McAllister said in a press release.

“However, there are number of other initiatives that are in progress and further steps required to appropriately plan for future sustainable growth in the Municipality. Despite the various challenges related to COVID, there are a number of exciting projects currently moving forward.”
