From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
“They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. From the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them.”
This week we will celebrate Remembrance Day, a day to honour those who have bravely fought for the freedom of our country in times past and in this present time.
Some went but never came back, such as Private Will Cushley of Port Lambton.
Others lived to tell their story and remind us that there is a price to pay for living in a free country.
Whether it was World War II, the Korean Conflict, or the work of peacekeepers, including the situation in Afghanistan, it is important for us to remember the men and women of uniform who have represented Canada.
This day is a good day to pause and reflect, but also to actively be praying for the safety of those serving on foreign soil, or waiting to be deployed to do so.
Not everyone is called to enlist in Canada’s armed forces but we can all pray that those who do come back to us safely.
Don’t let this be just another day for you.
Take the time to pray and give thanks for those who helped you enjoy the freedom you are now experiencing.
Lest we forget!
