Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police Service has charged three people following an investigation into a violent confrontation in Blenheim that left two people injured.
Officers responded to reports of a fight involving multiple people in the area of William Street North and Sunset Drive on Aug. 28 at approximately 8:29 p.m. Police said information at the time indicated a weapon had been displayed and discharged, and that a person had been struck by a motor vehicle.
The investigation was handed to the General Investigations Unit, which determined the incident was connected to an ongoing dispute. Investigators said a 24-year-old Blenheim man drove a vehicle and struck a 23-year-old Blenheim man near the intersection of William Street North and Sunset Drive. Police also determined that during the assault, a BB gun was produced and multiple pellets were fired at the victim. A 21-year-old Blenheim woman was also struck after running toward the scene to help.
Both victims were taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for treatment and have since been released from hospital. Police recovered a BB gun along with associated magazines and ammunition, which were seized as evidence.
A 24-year-old man from Blenheim was arrested and charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. An 18-year-old man from Blenheim was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. A 27-year-old man from Blenheim was arrested and charged with uttering threats, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The 24-year-old and 18-year-old accused were held pending bail hearings, while the 27-year-old was released with a future court date.
