Lost hiker located in Lambton County

Lambton OPP officials allege: On January 7, 2021 at approximately 5 p.m. members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a lone hiker who had gotten turned around in the Pinery Provincial Park and could not find the trail.

With darkness setting in, members of the OPP Provincial Communications Center-London (PCC-L) suggested the hiker utilize the What3Words application on her cellular phone.

After downloading the application, the hiker provided the three words observed on her screen to PCC-L who were then able to find her location within three square metres.

Lambton OPP members were able to quickly locate the hiker on the vast 38 kilometres of trails within the 25 square kilometre Provincial Park thanks to the resourceful members of the PCC-L and the What3Words application.

The What3Words application is available for Apple and Android devices for free on the app store and, if downloaded prior to your excursion, does not use cellular data when operating.
