114 active COVID-19 cases, 971 total, 13 outbreaks in Chatham-Kent

The active COVID-19 case count has dropped by 10 and now sits at 114 across Chatham-Kent.

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit has updated their ‘current situation’ page, which provides a summary of COVID-19 cases and testing in Chatham-Kent, on Friday, January 15, 2021.

CK Public Health officials say seven people remain hospitalized with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent.

Public health officials announced 27 more recoveries, bringing the total to 853.

The total number of cases has increased by 18 to 971.

One new workplace outbreak was announced on Friday by public health officials.

Overall, there are 13 active COVID-19 outbreaks across the community:

– Two institutional outbreaks: Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg and Riverview Gardens in Chatham.

– Nine un-named workplace outbreaks.

– Two congregate living outbreaks.

66 of the active cases are linked to close contact, 24 are unknown, nine are linked to workplace outbreaks in Chatham-Kent, eight cases have information pending, three are linked to institutional outbreaks outside of Chatham-Kent, two cases are linked to congregate living outbreaks in Chatham-Kent and one case is linked to institutional outbreaks in Chatham-Kent.

Since the pandemic began in March, four people from Chatham-Kent have died from COVID-19.

Lori Marshall, president and CEO of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and Dr. David Colby, Chief Medical Officer of Health in Chatham-Kent, confirmed the news of the fourth death during a press conference on Thursday morning, January 14, 2021, CK Public Health officials told the Sydenham Current.

The deceased was a 91-year-old Chatham man, who was living at home prior to getting ill, CK Public Health officials say.

He died on Thursday morning at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus.

A total of 62,709 tests for the virus have been completed to date.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2021 the Ontario Government declared a second state of emergency to address COVID-19.

“Effective January 14 at 12:01 a.m., there is a stay-at-home order in effect for 28 days requiring everyone to remain at home except for essential purposes, like the grocery store, pharmacy, health care, and essential work,” CK Public Health officials posted on social media.

“Please do your part and follow public health recommendations to help flatten the curve, and keep our community healthy and safe. We can do this CK.”
